About the position

Cargill is seeking an Engineering Co-op for May 2025, aimed at students pursuing degrees in various engineering disciplines. This co-op program is designed to provide real-world experience in a production environment, allowing students to learn from experienced professionals and understand the impact of their work on a global scale. The co-op will take place in one of Cargill's many production facilities across the United States, where participants will be exposed to both technical and management aspects of engineering. The role is structured to help individuals develop their skills and prepare for future career opportunities in engineering, particularly in Operations Leadership and Maintenance & Reliability Engineering roles. As an Engineering Co-op, you will engage in various responsibilities, including leading production or maintenance teams, managing projects, and ensuring compliance with government regulations. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, allowing co-ops to work on projects that involve process optimization, equipment reliability, and environmental compliance. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with other interns and co-ops, attend leadership events, and receive mentorship from experienced professionals. The co-op typically lasts 7-8 months, and co-ops are compensated hourly for their work. Responsibilities

  • Lead production or maintenance employees in a fast-paced environment.
  • Participate in daily production management meetings.
  • Comprehend and handle aspects of government regulations and compliance programs.
  • Supervise operators and technicians in day-to-day activities.
  • Engage in process optimization and equipment reliability initiatives.
  • Manage projects related to environmental compliance and regulatory permitting.
  • Develop business cases, manage budgets, and oversee project management for major improvements.
  • Utilize tools such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to prevent equipment failures.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Chemical Engineering, BioChemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Packaging, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Bachelor's/master's degree to be/recently completed between December 2025 - May 2028.
  • Ability to complete a 7-8 month co-op from May to December 2025.
  • Proven ability to work optimally with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Geographically flexible and willing to relocate for a co-op/internship opportunity anywhere in the U.S.
  • High degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous plant, production, co-op, or intern experience preferred.
  • Overall GPA of 2.7 or higher preferred.
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to job-related duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Leadership experience.
