About the position

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Electronic Design Engineer to join their Aerospace Systems team in Rancho Bernardo, CA. This role involves full life-cycle product development, including system concept, design, implementation, testing, and production support. The engineer will work within integrated product teams and take on responsibilities traditionally split among electrical engineers, product engineers, and PCB designers.

Responsibilities

  • Support the generation of detailed electronic schematics, CCA drawings, and bill of materials (BOMs) for electronic designs.
  • PCB/CCA design, development, test, and integration.
  • Electronic unit design, development, test, and integration.
  • Design, develop, test, and provide post-delivery support for Electronic Test Systems.
  • Manufacturing support during the hardware build process.
  • Translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications.
  • Integrate hardware and software into a functioning system.
  • Manage software and/or hardware refresh initiatives.
  • Generate engineering change notices (ECN), update models/drawings, and release documentation into Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) databases.
  • Work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Analog, Digital or Mixed Signal Circuit design, or a Master's degree in STEM.
  • Solid understanding of circuit design theory and hands-on circuit design experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience in CAD tools for electrical schematics and layout.
  • Strong communication skills to disseminate information to leadership and teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline.
  • Working experience with Altium designer or similar ECAD tools.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and guidance.
  • Experience with NI LabVIEW and/or C/C++ programming.
  • Experience with NI Test Stand.
  • Proficiency with digital and analog test equipment.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical hardware.
  • Experience with hand soldering, assembling, and repairing surface mount components.
  • Experience with hand soldering, assembling, and repairing wire harnesses and other electronic assemblies.
  • Prior hands-on prototyping and debug experience with complex digital subsystems.
  • FPGA architecture and design experience with Microchip, AMD (Xilinx), and/or Intel (Altera) FPGAs.
  • Experience with circuit board level debugging.
  • Familiarity with RS-422 and/or RS-485 and differential digital interfaces like LVDS.
