About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at AKF Group LLC involves planning and conducting engineering work that requires independent evaluation and adaptation of standard techniques and procedures. The role is integral to the successful completion of engineering tasks on various projects, working closely with Project Engineers for technical review and guidance. The engineer will be responsible for calculating power and lighting loads for building systems, surveying existing electrical systems, and designing power distribution and life safety systems, including fire alarms. In this role, the engineer will select and layout electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, electrical panels, and emergency generators. They will also review and understand task objectives and requirements communicated by the Project Manager or Project Engineer. Participation in code analyses, required calculations, equipment selection, and field survey tasks is essential. The engineer will attend meetings with architects, owners, and building managers to discuss current and future projects, enhancing the firm's reputation by taking ownership of internal and external client requests. Continuous professional development is encouraged, with opportunities to update job knowledge and technical expertise through educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and obtaining certifications in their area of expertise. The engineer will also participate in the firm's Technical Committee as requested and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate power and lighting loads for building systems
  • Survey the existing electrical systems for buildings
  • Design power distribution and life safety (fire alarm) systems
  • Select and layout electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, electrical panels and emergency generators
  • Review and understand task objectives and requirements communicated by the Project Manager or Project Engineer

  • Understand and demonstrate core values
  • Enhance the firm's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing internal and external client requests
  • Represent the company in a professional manner in all dealings with owners, architects, vendors, other design professionals and contractors
  • Update job knowledge and technical expertise by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, participating in technical organizations and obtaining certifications in area of expertise
  • Participate in the firm's Technical Committee as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited engineering program
  • Between 0 - 4 years of experience with a consulting engineering firm
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making and analytical skills
  • Possess strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasive and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to independently accomplish tasks and assignments to meet deadlines with supervision
  • Ability to consistently set goals and meet deadlines and adapt to flexible responsibilities
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Beginning understanding of the architectural, engineering and construction industry
  • Introductory knowledge of code compliance requirements and industry standards
  • Introductory working knowledge of BIM/Revit and AutoCAD
