About the position

The Field Service Engineer I position at Thermo Fisher Scientific is a critical role within the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD). The MSD EM business is dedicated to providing high-performance microscopy workflow solutions that enable customers to make significant discoveries and enhance efficiency across various fields, including materials science, life sciences, and semiconductor industries. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team that combines expertise in computer networks, precision mechanics, high vacuum theory, and electron optics. In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring that complex equipment is installed correctly and operates efficiently. You will conduct on-site maintenance visits, troubleshoot issues, and provide repair support to customers. Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers and colleagues is essential, as is the ability to travel frequently, often on short notice, to address customer needs. Your role will also involve training customers on system maintenance and providing valuable feedback to product quality teams to enhance service delivery and product performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists/conducts on-site installation of complex equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order
  • Assists on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users and company personnel
  • Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel
  • Complete and submit field service reports
  • Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance
  • Provide feedback to product quality teams
  • Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various system documentation
  • Provide feedback for various reports including identifying and isolating unique problems with system
  • Align with application scientists to collaborate on outstanding solutions to meet our users challenges
  • Must maintain Thermo Fisher Scientifics' 4i Values.

Requirements

  • An associate degree from a technical or undergrad program in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred; or 1-3 years of relevant combination of skills and experience
  • 1-3 years' experience or ability to learn operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, Prober or similar systems is a plus but not required
  • Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) a plus but not required
  • Experience operating O-scopes, digital voltmeter and logical problem solving
  • Required to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Ability to work under pressure, with a consistent record to make decisions with minimal direct supervision
  • Detail oriented, problem solver, promote team environment
  • Display a high level of confidentiality for both customer and Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Literate in Windows software environments
  • Basic trouble shooting skills preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics preferred
  • Proven interpersonal communication, teamwork/building, time management, organizational, problem solving and customer service skills
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and passport and travel regionally and internationally as the need arises
  • May require proof of Covid-19 vaccination
