About the position

As an Engineer I in Grid Operations at Alliant Energy, you will engage in a variety of engineering tasks aimed at supporting the construction, operations, and maintenance of essential infrastructure for energy generation, transmission, and distribution. This role involves working under the guidance of more experienced engineers to ensure reliability and efficiency in the systems that power communities. The position is hybrid, allowing for remote work while requiring residency in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety rules and practices to identify and correct unsafe conditions for self and team.
  • Learn basic customer needs and expectations and strive to identify system problems and solutions with guidance.
  • Apply regulatory and organizational engineering standards, processes, and procedures to solve limited scope problems.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of electric utility system operations and maintenance practices with a focus on reliability and resiliency.
  • Learn to communicate and build relationships with employees, business unit stakeholders, and contractors.
  • Learn how the utility business operates with emphasis on operations.
  • Develop simple solutions to system problems including scopes of work with cost estimates and sequences.
  • Perform or support basic engineering design and specification of protective microprocessor relay schemes and settings.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to field personnel during system disturbances or outages.
  • Engage in other duties that support Alliant Energy's values and purpose.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering program accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous technical and/or professional experience.
  • An internship or co-op in engineering.
