About the position

The position at Granite Construction is focused on providing technical engineering and cost information to ensure compliance with engineering standards during construction projects. The role involves assisting with job controls, interpreting designs, preparing documentation, and providing technical support to minimize additional costs. It is an entry-level position suitable for recent graduates or those with limited experience in construction estimating or engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting, and job costing.
  • Interpret design/drawings for craft workers to ensure specifications are followed.
  • Research and recommend resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interference, and errors.
  • Prepare and disseminate required documentation records such as status reports and punch lists to supervisors.
  • Provide technical support regarding project material controls including delivery dates and construction schedules.
  • Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work and change orders.
  • Provide necessary building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and installation of materials.
  • Develop job essential data including quantity take-offs and labor costs to ensure accurate estimates and bids.
  • Research historical data and productivity analysis reports to compile summary reports for future estimates.
  • Maintain files of working documents for backup to estimating figures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.
  • 0 - 2 years of construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and AGTEK Take-off software.
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawing and specifications, and building materials.
  • Ability to perform trigonometric calculations either manually or with a calculator.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interface with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with construction estimating software.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations in construction environments.
