About the position

Idaho Power — located in Pocatello, Idaho — is looking for an Engineer I or II to join our Distribution Planning team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does an Engineer I or II do for us? Model and analyze power systems during steady-state, transient, harmonic, and fault conditions for planning, specification and configuration of power system equipment for transmission and generation, including protection, control, voltage control, transformation, and reactive compensation. They also: Plan and lead projects, assignments, and technical investigations Act as a liaison between other departments and organizations Evaluate progress and results, recommending changes in procedures Exercise moderate technical judgment in decision-making and independent action Are responsible for budgeting, financial accountability, and timelines on assigned projects Utilize industry and discipline related knowledge to interpret and comply with regulations as required by NERC, FERC, WECC, EPA, NESC, OSHA, FCC, etc. Model and analyze power systems during steady-state, transient, harmonic, and fault conditions for planning, specification and configuration of power system equipment for transmission and generation, including protection, control, voltage control, transformation, and reactive compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Model and analyze power systems during steady-state, transient, harmonic, and fault conditions.
  • Plan and lead projects, assignments, and technical investigations.
  • Act as a liaison between other departments and organizations.
  • Evaluate progress and results, recommending changes in procedures.
  • Exercise moderate technical judgment in decision-making and independent action.
  • Responsible for budgeting, financial accountability, and timelines on assigned projects.
  • Utilize industry and discipline related knowledge to interpret and comply with regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution OR Bachelor in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited institution and a P.E. license.
  • Engineer I – 0-2 years related experience.
  • Engineer II – 2 or more years of related experience.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) designation.
  • Familiarity with Power System Analysis tools such as Power World, Synergi, and/or GIS.
