About The Position

The Engineer I - Research, Biomaterials (Degradable) position at Arthrex involves performing product testing in a laboratory setting to support the development of innovative orthopedic medical devices. The role focuses on mechanical and polymeric product testing, contributing to research studies that facilitate verification and validation for new product development, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The individual will be responsible for executing and documenting approved test methods while effectively communicating findings and issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related science field required, preferably in Polymer Science/Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Basic understanding of polymer and metal properties and mechanical and chemical test equipment.
  • Proficient in using mechanical and polymeric analysis test lab equipment to acquire data/test results.
  • Good documentation skills and ability to write accurate test procedures/summaries/reports.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterilization processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and ASTM standards for medical devices is a plus.

  • Master's or PhD degree in a related science field preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform research studies to facilitate the verification and validation requirement of new product development.
  • Conduct static and dynamic mechanical testing and polymeric testing.
  • Manage and maintain degradation, shelf life, and accelerated aging studies.
  • Evaluate biomaterials and biologics.
  • Design and perform research to evaluate new technologies and design concepts.
  • Implement post-market research to support existing devices and technologies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of research procedures and methods.
  • Participate in the Design History process during product development, focusing on verification and regulatory activities.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain various engineering test environments.
