About the position

Iridium is seeking an entry-level Engineer I to join the Systems Integration and Test team. This role involves contributing to the research, development, testing, and sustainment of engineering activities related to Iridium's services and satellite operations. The Engineer I will assist in test case development, perform data entry, and support team members, with a focus on learning and building technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct test planning, procedure development, test execution, research, and data entry for all aspects of the Iridium system.
  • Test payload communications, Iridium GSM based telephony and services, Ground Telemetry, Tracking and Control (TT&C), K-Band communication links, Space Vehicle (SV) to L-Band subscriber equipment, and Space flight vehicle platform operations.
  • Collaborate with team members across various functional disciplines to ensure high product quality and support project delivery milestones.
  • Document, recreate, and isolate reported software and/or hardware defects found during testing and in support of constellation operations.
  • Identify test, programmatic, and services implementation risks and support the mitigation of risks and issues identified.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of test plans and procedures.
  • Aid in the development, maintenance, and execution of test scripts for feature, defect, and regression testing.
  • Follow best practices while identifying improvements that add value and reduce cycle time and cost.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field experience.
  • General knowledge of network switches and routers.
  • Interest in providing high-quality, cost-effective system integration, test, and support services.
  • Results-driven with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong communication skills to convey key messages and ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with team members and be open to constructive feedback.
  • Problem-solving skills with the humility to ask for help when needed.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and readiness to take on new tasks.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and completing them on time with minimal errors.
  • Eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous exposure to software management tools (JIRA, GIT, and/or Bamboo).
  • Experience developing software in Java, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with high-availability software and hardware systems.
  • Knowledge of systems troubleshooting approaches and methodologies.
  • Experience with systems integration and Agile software development process.
  • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, state machine driven traffic simulators, protocol analyzers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Linux and/or Unix operating systems.
  • Cisco or other network certifications.
