About the position

The Engineer I position at the Rey Lab within the Medical College of Wisconsin focuses on supporting innovative epilepsy research that integrates complex neurophysiological data collection with patient engagement. This role is essential for advancing neuroscience research involving both adult and pediatric patients undergoing epilepsy treatment, emphasizing a balance between technical responsibilities and patient interaction.

Responsibilities

• Optimize data collection in clinical settings by configuring and troubleshooting hardware and software in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• Implement and maintain closed-loop electrical stimulation systems for clinical and cognitive research.
• Engage directly with patients during monitoring sessions to gather research data while ensuring their comfort and respect.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including Dr. Rey, postdocs, research coordinators, and faculty, to foster a creative and problem-solving lab culture.
• Manage complex neural, video, audio, and behavioral data to support epilepsy diagnosis and treatment research.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, computer science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in MATLAB and Python is essential.
• Experience working with patients or in a customer-facing role is highly valued.
• Detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research setting.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with closed-loop stimulation and neurophysiological systems is preferred; training will be provided if needed.
