About the position

The Engineer, Distribution Planning at Duquesne Light Company is responsible for planning projects of moderate complexity within the electrical engineering field. This role focuses on ensuring the safe, reliable, and effective installation and operation of electrical facilities, contributing to the company's mission of providing reliable power to customers in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specific design, engineering, economic, and investigative assignments for the installation, revision, or rehabilitation of facilities.
  • Conducts system modeling, load flow, protective device coordination, and other technical studies, preparing reports with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Assists other engineers with higher technical studies to fulfill departmental goals and objectives.
  • Consults with superiors, peers, and vendors to gather necessary design and cost information.
  • Inspects sites of proposed installations to prepare connection recommendations and rehabilitation proposals.
  • Supports and develops new and/or existing business cases through the capital project planning process.
  • Analyzes distribution network loading and operation for voltage, overload, and performance problems, recommending correction plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college required.
  • Two (2+) or more years' related experience required.
  • Valid drivers' license required.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT or FE) Certification or Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred.
  • Utility or similar experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with power system simulation software such as CYME, PSS\E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
