About the position

As a Field Service Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will play a crucial role in providing on-site instrument services to customers in the San Diego area and Southern California. This position focuses on maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment, ensuring customer satisfaction, and enhancing service operations efficiency. You will be responsible for managing customer relationships and delivering high-quality service while advocating for Thermo Fisher Scientific's values and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site repair, maintenance, calibration, and installation of general laboratory equipment products such as incubators, centrifuges, ultra-low temp freezers, and washers.
  • Work in conjunction with the scheduling department to meet customer needs.
  • Provide on-site training related to system service, maintenance, and basic operation.
  • Arrange travel accommodations and submit expense reports on time.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory.
  • Document all reasonable actions regarding the scope of work on time.
  • Act as a communication link between the customer and the company to ensure effective service.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering or Bio-Medical Engineering highly desired or High School Diploma required with previous equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Bio-Medical Engineering preferred.
  • Accredited trade school certification in HVAC/R or Electronic Technician preferred.
  • Prior experience and familiarity with refrigeration systems are highly preferred with EPA Certification.
  • Detailed knowledge of test equipment such as multi-meters, pressure sensors, and mass flow controllers is required.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and customer focus to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to operate computers, smartphones, and related software efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently diagnosing and fixing issues using schematics, diagrams, and service manuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling.
