The Functional Lead for manufacturing/assembling and small-scale SMT operations in a Research & Development (R&D) environment is responsible for overseeing low-to-medium size production runs. This role is situated within the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit, which comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership necessary for the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. The position requires a commitment to innovation, integrity, continual learning, and strong execution within collaborative, cross-functional teams. In this role, you will improve and modify product designs to ensure manufacturability, reduce product costs, meet program delivery requirements, and ensure that rigorous quality requirements are efficiently met through the application of professionally accepted industrial techniques, practices, and procedures. You will develop, maintain, and enforce effective manufacturing processes, instructions, flows, systems, and facilities that comply with program, customer, and government requirements. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed production plans, manufacturing schedules, and factory forecasts to support program and enterprise-level operations. You will also analyze, evaluate, and formally present innovative improvements to operational processes, instructions, and approaches required for meeting contract specifications for new or modified products and systems. Leading multifunctional teams of engineers, planners, technicians, and inspectors through multiple phases of product realization will be a key aspect of your responsibilities. You will provide advanced-level understanding and communication of manufacturing and operational aspects to program teams and internal/external customers, promoting strong team engagement and participation in key operational/manufacturing phases through influential leadership. Your role will involve resolving difficult manufacturing programmatic challenges and discrepancies with program teams, suppliers, and internal/external customers, ensuring that all manufacturing procedures and processes conform to company and/or contract requirements for quality and performance. You will compile and prepare necessary data and engineering items to support technical meetings, organize, analyze, write, and present technical data and/or proposal information for program managers and customers, and maintain manufacturing and test records and reports. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the department, Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units, and the Company will be essential to your success in this position.
