About the position

The Engineer II - RF Solutions position within the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit focuses on the design and realization of antennas and RF systems. The role involves hands-on engineering tasks, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior engineers. The position requires a strong foundation in RF engineering principles and the ability to solve complex technical problems related to antenna and sensor applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and realize individual antennas, phased array antennas, RF circuits, passive RF components, and RF systems.
  • Use computational electromagnetic analysis software to design and predict performance on various types of antennas and apertures.
  • Design frequency-selective surfaces (FSSs) for use with various radiating apertures.
  • Implement design techniques for RCS mitigation where necessary.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to realize RF designs.
  • Guide the testing of RF hardware for performance metrics such as VSWR, insertion loss, gain, and RCS.
  • Evaluate antenna requirements and participate in concept trade-off and development.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to customers and stakeholders.
  • Investigate new technologies and applications for antennas and RF systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in RF project phases.
  • Provide technical solutions for antenna/sensor-based applications.
  • Maintain effective working relationships within the department and with customers.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • Full competency in core RF engineering and antenna theory.
  • Solid communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with design of antennas and passive RF components.
  • Analytical design experience using software and simulation tools such as AWR Microwave Office, CST, HFSS, etc.
  • RF antenna testing experience utilizing network analyzers and anechoic chambers.
  • Proficiency in programming and data visualization in MATLAB and Python.
  • Ability to schedule and execute measurements and perform analysis.
