About the position

At RK&K, we are hiring a skilled and experienced Bridge Engineer to join our team in Fairfax or Virginia Beach, Virginia. As a Bridge Engineer on our Structures team, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive inspections of in-service bridges, designing structural components, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity and safety of our transportation infrastructure. In this position, you will assist in performing detailed inspections of bridges and transportation-related structures in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and other relevant guidelines. You will evaluate the condition and structural integrity of bridges, including substructures, superstructures, and related components. Identifying and documenting deficiencies, deterioration, or damage to bridge elements such as decks, beams, abutments, piers, and foundations will be a key part of your responsibilities. You will conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural analysis to assess bridge performance and recommend appropriate maintenance or repair actions. Additionally, you will assist with preparing accurate and comprehensive inspection reports detailing findings, recommendations, and proposed solutions. Collaboration with design and engineering teams will be essential as you develop repair plans and specifications for bridge rehabilitation or replacement projects. Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in bridge inspection technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices will also be part of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide designs for transportation structures
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in bridge inspection technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Registration as an Engineer Intern (EI)
  • Minimum of Two (2) years of experience in structural inspection with a focus on bridges
  • Valid NBIS Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges certificate
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various work sites within Virginia
  • Knowledge of National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), AASHTO guidelines, and relevant federal and state regulations
  • Knowledge of bridge inspection software and tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and familiarity with various bridge types and construction materials
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to assess bridge conditions accurately and propose effective solutions
