About the position

The Field Service Engineer III for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for the on-site installation, servicing, and repair of complex electron microscopy equipment and systems. This role involves troubleshooting, conducting maintenance visits, and providing customer training, while ensuring high operational quality and customer satisfaction. The position offers opportunities for professional growth within the field service team and across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customer needs are met by applying appropriate resources.
  • Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order.
  • Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel.
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel.
  • Complete technical training and identify specialist training based on microscopes in the region.
  • Travel to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel.
  • Complete and submit field service reports.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance on assigned tools.
  • Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance.
  • Mentor new field service engineers and provide feedback to product quality teams.

Requirements

  • University degree/Bachelor degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred; or 5-10 years of equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
  • 5-10 years' experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, Prober or similar systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/coach others and complex technical issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, time management, organizational, problem solving, conflict management and customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to fix complex systems and subsystems down to component level.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and work under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with O-scopes, digital voltmeter and logical problem solving.
