About the position

The Engineer III, Field Service position at Thermo Fisher Scientific involves providing on-site installation, servicing, and repair of sophisticated microscopy equipment. This role is crucial in supporting customers in various sectors, including materials science and life sciences, by ensuring the functionality and maintenance of high-performance analysis tools. The engineer will also be responsible for training customers on system operation and maintenance, acting as a liaison between the company and its clients.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site installation of equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate functionality.
  • Perform scheduled planned maintenance visits on-site.
  • Provide repair support for customers and other field service personnel.
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel.
  • Complete technical training as needed.
  • Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel.
  • Complete and submit field service reports.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on assigned tools.
  • Partner with colleagues to acquire technical knowledge to problem-solve systems solutions.
  • Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance.
  • Update and correct various Thermo Fisher system documentation as needed.
  • Provide feedback for various reports, including identifying and isolating problems with systems.
  • Act as a subject authority and resource for training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience in electronic systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on technical experience installing, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems.
  • Detailed understanding and extensive experience solving ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; proficiency in English is required.
  • Ability to resolve sophisticated systems and subsystems down to component level.
  • Literate in MS DOS and Windows software environments.
  • Able to read and interpret schematics.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and valid passport.
