About the position

The Engineer III - Mechanical position at Carpenter Technology Corporation involves managing discipline-specific projects related to the purchase, modification, and improvement of various equipment. The role requires advanced engineering knowledge and experience, particularly in manufacturing processes and equipment design, while also providing troubleshooting support and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and recommend the purchase, modification, and improvement of various equipment.
  • Manage discipline-specific subset of projects, responsible for cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Define the scope of the project subset and select team members.
  • Complete non-standard engineering & design work related to the installation and retrofit of complex equipment.
  • Provide advanced day-to-day equipment troubleshooting support to Maintenance.
  • Contribute to the development of standards, processes, and procedures within the department.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced Engineers within their discipline.
  • Manage multi-disciplined projects as required.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree required.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of latest governing codes (i.e.: NFPA, ASME, SAE, AIST, JIC, etc.).
  • Experience in applying sound engineering and design principles in the development of manufacturing processes, process equipment, and fabrications.
  • Advanced knowledge of water recirculation cooling systems, compressed air and pneumatic systems, vacuum systems, hydraulic systems, and natural gas combustion systems.
  • Experience dealing with fabrication shops and equipment vendors.
  • Experience developing RFPs and RFQs for purchasing equipment and services.
  • Experience with field installation coordination and direction.
  • Experience with equipment and process-related ergonomic and safety designs and considerations.
  • Experience working closely with and supporting plant production and maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to perform independent work requiring experience and independent judgment.
  • Application of recognized Project Management principles focusing on Cost, Schedule, and Performance in project implementation.
  • Ability to apply engineering discipline training in the design of equipment and fabrications.
  • Ability to direct outside consultants, contractors, and material suppliers.
  • Skilled in the use of CAD systems (3D capabilities preferred), MS Office software packages, and engineering design software packages.
