About the position

This position requires an experienced engineer in the environmental and solid waste industry, responsible for managing engineering and construction projects at solid waste disposal facilities. The role involves problem-solving, project management, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Engage, direct, and manage professional consulting firms for various tasks at solid waste facilities.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with regulators and serve as a communication link on technical and permitting matters.
  • Act as a professional representative for WM at community events and technical conferences.
  • Manage landfill construction projects, including overseeing preparation of construction plans and final approvals.
  • Track and manage capital budgets for engineering and construction projects, reporting to local management and corporate.
  • Coordinate landfill capacity tracking and develop efficient fill sequencing plans.
  • Evaluate sites for adherence to construction and permit documents and pursue necessary permits.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to provide innovative engineering solutions to operational and compliance issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and direction to management and other functional areas.
  • Participate in review of acquisitions and assist in training and mentoring technical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (accredited).
  • Five years of related experience in the environmental and solid waste industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, landfill design, and permitting.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
