About the position

The Engineer Intern Applicant - Engineer 5 position in Acadia Parish is designed to assist the Engineer 6 (Project Engineer) in various engineering tasks. The role focuses on contract administration, project inspection, and ensuring compliance with project specifications to maintain high-quality work by contractors. This position is part of a career progression group, allowing for advancement based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction of highways, bridges, and drainage structures, reviewing engineer technicians' work and assisting in directing their activities.
  • Review proposed plans and specifications during project development and resolve disputes during construction based on interpretation of plans.
  • Assist with generating and processing pay estimates and change orders, ensuring proper documentation and calculations are maintained.
  • Review erosion control plans and enforce traffic control requirements on construction projects, consulting with contractors on various issues.
  • Perform data collection and engineering calculations to identify plan errors and provide solutions for change orders.
  • Review and recommend changes to plans and specifications for upcoming construction projects, assisting in quantity/data collection during project development.
  • Conduct drainage surveys to assist with proper sizing of drainage structures and submit documentation for drainage permits.
  • Participate in interviews and make recommendations for hiring new employees.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Completion of college hours or degree from an accredited college or university.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Experience in construction inspection and contract administration.
