About the position

The Engineer Intern Applicant position is part of a Career Progression Group (CPG) that allows for gradual advancement from Engineer Intern Applicant to Engineer 5 as the employee gains experience and proficiency. This role focuses on the design of highway construction projects, preparation of construction plans, and assisting in the bid process. The position is located in Baton Rouge, LA, within the Department of Transportation and Development, and is intended for individuals seeking to secure a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate while gaining practical engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction plans for highway projects including pavement preservation and safety-related projects.
• Develop specifications and contract proposals for various construction items.
• Coordinate with local governments and various engineering departments to ensure project compliance with standards.
• Assist in the preparation and processing of proposals and contracts for letter bids.
• Provide technical expertise to District Permit Specialists and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
• Participate in emergency support activities as needed.

Requirements

• Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• Knowledge of current LADOTD Standard Specifications for Roads & Bridges.
• Ability to apply Civil Engineering principles and perform necessary calculations.
• Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications.
• Current Louisiana Professional Engineering License is required for advancement.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with computer-aided design software.
• Familiarity with construction means and methods used on LADOTD projects.
