About the position

The Engineer Intern Applicant position is designed for individuals seeking practical experience in engineering while working under the supervision of a Project Engineer. This role involves assisting in the planning, directing, and coordinating of construction project activities, as well as performing various engineering functions in both office and field settings. The position is part of a career progression group, allowing for advancement based on experience and qualifications, and is located in Sulphur, LA.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the project engineer in planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of inspectors for multiple construction projects.
  • Ensure adherence to contract plans and specifications by the contractor on highway construction projects.
  • Participate in pre-construction conferences and progress meetings with engineers and contractors.
  • Perform various office engineering functions including review of correspondence, engineering calculations, and documentation of quantities.
  • Assist in preparing and processing monthly partial pay estimates, change orders, and closeout documentation for final project acceptance.
  • Review and recommend changes to plans and specifications for upcoming construction projects.
  • Provide project-related information to contractors, the public, and other interested parties as required.
  • Perform additional duties to ensure the smooth operation of the Sulphur Project Engineer's Office.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Possess a valid Louisiana Class 'E' Driver's License.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematics, physical, and engineering sciences in planning, designing, constructing, inspecting, and maintaining engineering projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with surveying equipment and construction project management.
  • Familiarity with DOTD policies and procedures.
