About the position

The Engineer Intern Applicant position is part of a Career Progression Group that allows for gradual advancement from Engineer Intern Applicant to Engineer 5 as the employee gains experience and proficiency. This role focuses on the design of highway construction projects, preparation of construction plans, and assisting in the bid process, providing a foundational experience for licensure in engineering.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction plans for highway projects including design of guard rail systems and drainage structures.
• Assist in the preparation and processing of proposals and contracts for letter bids.
• Provide technical expertise and assistance to District Permit Specialists and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
• Participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend continuing education classes.
• Serve as a functional supervisor and mentor to other staff or as a Team Leader in the supervisor's absence.

Requirements

• Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
• Knowledge of current LADOTD Standard Specifications for Roads & Bridges.
• Ability to apply Civil Engineering principles and perform necessary calculations.
• Proficient in basic Microsoft Office applications.
• Possession of a current Louisiana Professional Engineering License is required for advancement.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with computer-aided design software.
• Familiarity with construction means and methods used on LADOTD projects.
