About the position

As an Engineer Intern - Electrical at Oshkosh Corporation, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of reliable, functional, and cost-effective electrical systems for our specialized trucks. Your responsibilities will include preparing engineering drawings, layouts, and schematics using advanced computer-aided design software. You will also create Bills of Material (BOM) and select appropriate materials for engineered parts, ensuring that all designs conform to drafting standards and departmental policies. This internship will provide you with the opportunity to work independently with minimal direction while maintaining a working knowledge of our internal systems, including One World, PRIDE, and PC network systems. In this position, you will be expected to dimension and tolerance drawings to ensure proper assembly fit and prepare engineering change notices (ECN). You will consult and coordinate with suppliers, check your own work and that of others, and support various departments, including Customer Service and Manufacturing, with direction on electrical and multiplexing-related issues. Your contributions will help optimize engineering designs for manufacturing process efficiency and effectiveness, focusing on minimizing the number of parts in product designs to reduce costs and eliminate waste. This internship is designed for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering field. You will gain hands-on experience in the automotive and heavy-duty truck electrical applications, enhancing your professional skills and preparing you for a successful career in engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering drawings, layouts, and schematics using computer-aided design software.
  • Create Bills of Material (BOM).
  • Select materials for engineered parts.
  • Dimension and tolerance drawings to ensure proper assembly fit.
  • Conform to drafting standards and department policies.
  • Prepare engineering change notices (ECN).
  • Consult and coordinate with suppliers.
  • Check own work and that of others.
  • Work independently with minimal direction.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of One World, PRIDE, and PC network systems.
  • Support Customer Service with direction on electrical and multiplexing related field problems.
  • Support manufacturing with direction on electrical and multiplexing related questions, features, and upgrades.
  • Support Production Specialists with direction on option configuration.

Requirements

  • Student working towards a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or engineering related field for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with automotive/heavy duty truck electrical applications and communication networks.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with CATIA V5 / SmarTeam application, SolidWorks, CATIA V5 Electrical.
  • Experience with 2D computer aided design software Zuken E³, Medusa, AutoCAD application.
  • Experience with design and development of wiring schematics, reference drawings, and wire harnesses.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing principles such as value streams, 5S, 7 general types of waste, and project planning.
