About the position

The Engineer IV, Process Safety at Takeda is responsible for evaluating process safety in chemical processes, leading technology transfer activities, and maintaining kilolab facilities. This role focuses on ensuring the safe scale-up of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes through thorough hazard evaluations and data management, contributing to the development of innovative therapies.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate known and potential hazards for safe scale-up of chemical processes.
  • Prepare complex experimental protocols.
  • Collect and integrate process safety data using various equipment and ensure compliance with FAIR principles.
  • Work with external vendors to gather relevant process safety data.
  • Summarize and document results in an ELN and generate process safety test reports.
  • Conduct HAZOP analysis and support process safety testing.
  • Partner with manufacturing organizations to ensure safe scale-up of processes.
  • Draft operating procedures and train staff on quality standards.
  • Maintain kilolab facilities to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Manage kilolab inventory and ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors for equipment installation and qualification.
  • Oversee internal manufacturing campaigns and support execution and cleaning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience in process safety and manufacturing.
  • Previous experience in a lab and pilot plant setting is preferred.
  • Experience in process safety within the pharmaceutical, agrochemical, or fine chemical industries is preferred.
  • Familiarity with HAZOPs and/or PHAs is preferred.
  • Experience using process safety equipment such as DSC, RC1, EasymaxHFCal, ARC, and Tsu is preferred.
  • Knowledge of software packages for process safety prediction is a plus.
  • Understanding of FAIR data principles for efficient data management.

  • Experience in a pilot plant setting.
  • Previous experience with HAZOPs and/or PHAs.
  • Familiarity with software packages for process safety prediction.
