About the position

This position provides design, engineering, and technical expertise for transmission lines, primarily supporting the Duke Energy - Carolinas West region. The role requires familiarity with transmission line engineering theories and principles, and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The position is classified as career/senior level, where applicants are expected to develop advanced skills and work independently on complex projects. Responsibilities include problem identification, solution development, and project management to ensure successful transmission line projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise in transmission line design, including analysis, evaluation, and design calculations.
  • Supports transmission line routing/siting, creates conceptual designs and cost estimates, and performs detailed design for transmission line projects.
  • Prepares job packages, technical reports, documentation, calculations, and drawings accurately and thoroughly.
  • Conducts engineering studies and manages non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight.
  • Ensures project goals are met through effective planning, organizing, estimating, execution, and monitoring of work activities.
  • Modifies designs to address construction issues and provides on-site support during construction.
  • Makes informed decisions impacting major projects or business results.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum 4 years of engineering experience for Engineer III or 5 years with a PE / 6 years without a PE for Senior Engineer.
  • Proficient in transmission line design theories and principles and relevant software.
