About the position

The Licensed Engineer position at American Cruise Lines involves overseeing the technical operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art ships that provide five-star service to guests. The role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems while adhering to maritime regulations. Engineers are responsible for 24-hour response to machinery issues, maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination with Regional Port Engineers for repairs and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of all shipboard machinery, including the main propulsion system, auxiliary machinery, and electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable maritime regulations, including safety standards, pollution prevention measures, and maintenance requirements.
  • Implement maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure the ship's machinery is in optimal condition.
  • Implement emergency procedures for handling various technical emergencies, such as engine breakdowns, fires, or flooding.
  • Optimize fuel consumption to minimize operating costs and reduce the ship's environmental impact.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts, supplies, and lubricants to ensure adequate availability for maintenance and repairs.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the engineering department, ensuring that all safety procedures are followed and hazards are mitigated for passengers and crew.
  • Perform liquid load transfers, watering, refueling, and used oil disposal.
  • Provide daily morning updates and collaborate with Hotel Officers and Service Crew to ensure five-star guest service.
  • Log all liquid transfers, machinery repairs, systems failures, and consumables inventory.
  • Oversee shipboard contractors for repairs to machinery, equipment, and systems.

Requirements

  • Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).
  • 5-10 years of experience with diesel machinery, hydraulics, electrical systems.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficient with Electronic Planned Maintenance Programs (preferably HelmConnect).
  • Familiar with development and operation of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Proficiency in CAD software a plus (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor).
  • Strong technical knowledge of ship propulsion and auxiliary systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing marine machinery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Card.
  • Pre-employment drug test and continual participation in random testing.
