About the position

HDT Global is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative team focused on developing novel robotic devices for a variety of applications in the medical, military, and scientific research sectors. The successful candidate will engage in all facets of design and engineering, which includes requirements analysis, concept generation, mechanical design, implementation, testing, and documentation. This role will involve working on multiple projects of moderate size or contributing to larger projects, ensuring that the candidate can manage their time effectively and prioritize tasks accordingly. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in machine design, including experience with sensors, transmissions, electric motors, bearings, kinematic linkages, material selection, and structural analysis. Hands-on debugging skills are essential, as the candidate will be expected to translate project objectives into tangible results and deliverables. Collaboration is key in this role, as the candidate will work within a highly interdisciplinary team environment, requiring excellent communication and teamwork skills. Essential duties include applying strong robotics fundamentals such as kinematics, dynamics, and statics, as well as proficiency in 3D mechanical CAD design, preferably using SolidWorks. The candidate will draft production drawings for machined parts, fabrications, weldments, and assemblies, and will conduct both static and dynamic structural analysis using various tools, including hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA). A solid understanding of materials is necessary to optimize strength, weight, cost, and performance, alongside knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes to ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising quality. The Mechanical Engineer will also be responsible for conceptualizing and implementing complex mechanisms, performing intricate design and research tasks, and developing mechanical products and systems such as robots, actuators, instruments, sensors, and mechatronic systems. The role requires designing complete projects, systems, components, or processes, and preparing comprehensive project documentation. Additionally, the candidate will design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, and formulate solutions to engineering problems. A strong desire to learn new concepts and skills quickly is essential, as is the ability to support and uphold the mission, values, and culture of HDT Global.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of design and engineering including requirements analysis, concept generation, mechanical design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
  • Work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
  • Apply strong robotics fundamentals such as kinematics, dynamics, and statics.
  • Utilize 3D mechanical CAD design, preferably SolidWorks, to draft production drawings for machined parts, fabrications, and assemblies.
