About the position

Moseley Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to join their team in Merritt Island, Florida. This contract position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the build of one of the largest rockets the world has seen. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading operations improvement initiatives, focusing on ergonomic and human factors, operations plans, recovery planning, capacity planning, and capital planning. The role requires a proactive approach to manufacturing processes, ensuring that all operations are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness. In this position, you will lead various manufacturing-related projects, providing essential production support that includes scheduling, budget forecasting, crew empowerment, defect analysis, and core competency definition. You will be responsible for identifying and prioritizing process improvement projects, utilizing lean manufacturing principles, engineering economic analysis, process mapping, root cause analysis, statistical methods, six sigma, and time studies to enhance operational performance. Additionally, you will facilitate system integration through Value Stream Analysis, Facility Layouts, Production Systems Design, and Manufacturing Process Design. Your role will involve executing time-motion studies directly in the field, gathering data through observations and analysis to identify issues and propose solutions. You will also manage the data input and organization of time study data, develop ad hoc queries and reports for performance tracking, and maintain existing databases and spreadsheets. Participation in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) responsibilities is also expected, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead manufacturing-related projects focusing on operations improvement, ergonomic & human factors, operations plans, recovery planning, capacity planning, and capital planning.
  • Provide production support including scheduling, theory of constraint, budget & forecast, crew empowerment, defect analysis, core competency definition, make/buy evaluation, and benchmarking analysis.
  • Identify and prioritize process improvement projects utilizing lean manufacturing, engineering economic analysis, process mapping, root cause analysis, statistical methods, six sigma, and time studies.
  • Facilitate system integration through Value Stream Analysis, Facility Layouts, Production Systems Design, Manufacturing Process Design, Systems Thinking, Facilities Planning, and Requirements.
  • Execute time-motion studies directly in the field, performing observations and forming opinions regarding identified issues, their causes, and potential solutions.
  • Gather and analyze data to improve operations, determine hourly labor requirements, and develop planning standards.
  • Provide input into the design for simple studies, plan study schedules, train data collectors, and ensure proper data collection.
  • Manage data input and organization of time study data collected, developing ad hoc queries and reports for performance tracking.
  • Update and maintain existing databases and spreadsheet tables, manipulating large quantities of data for analysis.
  • Participate in EHS responsibilities by following established policies, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in operations research, industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience working directly with manufacturing in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in manufacturing and/or facilities planning.
  • Experience with factory flow, process modeling, and simulations.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement and value stream mapping events.
  • Strong analytic skill set with high proficiency in data mining.
  • Exceptional skills in Excel and manual data analysis.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • Operations Management, Construction Management, MSE and/or MBA.
  • Manned space flight production experience.
  • Project Management Certification (PMP).
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
  • Experience transitioning development to production.
  • Hands-on experience with materials and manufacturing processes.
