About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer - Mfg/Process/Industrial Level II position at Blue Origin focuses on developing manufacturing processes for rocket engines. This role is integral to ensuring the quality, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency of manufacturing operations, contributing to the company's mission of enabling safe human spaceflight. The position requires collaboration with a diverse team to translate engineering designs into functional hardware, while also implementing improvements in manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing work instructions for various processes including receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment.
  • Manage cost, quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.
  • Develop process control measures and evaluation through statistical analysis.
  • Define and support repair and rework activities.
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing tooling and equipment.
  • Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure proper manufacturing and delivery of hardware and equipment.
  • Perform root cause analyses for non-conformances and deploy corrective actions.
  • Design material handling and packaging to protect hardware during the build and test process.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the build and test process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 3-7 years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing environment with assemblies.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience in hardware manufacturing processes such as castings, forgings, and machining.
  • Proven experience in completing manufacturing projects successfully.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills including CAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate clearly at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software.
  • Familiarity with non-destructive testing methods.
