About the position

As the Deputy Division Head for the Department of Defense, you will play a crucial role in providing expert advice and counsel to the Division's members on a variety of matters including business operations, staffing, personnel management, regulatory compliance, and technical competencies. Your responsibilities will encompass supporting the Division Head in various operational aspects such as personnel management, financial oversight, contractual obligations, security protocols, and safety measures. You will serve as a senior advisor on high-priority programs, coordinating efforts at the Division level to address technical issues while providing engineering oversight and ensuring the integration of departmental and divisional strategic initiatives. In this position, you will also be instrumental in the development and management of workforce shaping strategies. This involves analyzing existing and future work profiles, understanding customer needs, and ensuring that the Division possesses the necessary technical skills and capacity to meet both internally and externally assigned work. Additionally, you will assist in the creation and implementation of professional growth and training programs, effectively utilizing employee recognition systems and processes to foster a culture of continuous improvement and development. Your role will require evaluating test and evaluation plans and processes to assess their effectiveness, resource allocation, and associated risks. This multifaceted position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to enhancing the operational capabilities of the Division.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and counsel to Division members on business, staffing, personnel, regulatory, and technical competency matters.
  • Support the Division Head in personnel, financial, contractual, security, safety, and related duties.
  • Serve as a senior advisor on high-priority programs, coordinating Division-level efforts to address technical issues.
  • Provide technical direction, engineering oversight, and integration of department and division strategic efforts.
  • Assist with the development and management of workforce shaping strategies considering existing and future work profiles, customers, and requirements.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of professional growth and training programs.
  • Evaluate test and evaluation plans and processes for effectiveness, resources, and risks.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
  • Appointment of retired military members within 180 days of retirement is subject to provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required.
