About the position

You will serve as an ENGINEER or SCIENTIST in the INTEROPERABILITY AND NETWORKS DIVISION Code 254 of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15 and the ND-4 encompasses GS-12 and GS-13.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Chief Engineer for Submarine Local Area Network/Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (SubLAN/CANES).
  • Responsible for the technical execution of all SubLAN/CANES in support of the program sponsors, including PMW-160.
  • Ensure the department engineering policies, instructions, and practices and risk management standards are developed and implemented throughout SubLAN/CANES.
  • Develop and promulgate technical lessons learned to the CHENG as appropriate.
  • Participate in CHENG community of practice to incorporate objectives of affordability and commonality.
  • Communicate the broad scope and complex nature of the program to technical and management personnel at all levels.
  • Establish collaboration efforts with other combat systems leads to ensure technology infusion and future capabilities plans are incorporated into SubLAN/CANES network upgrades.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the life cycle maintenance of SubLAN/CANES systems, facilities, and supply support depots.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership of a multi-disciplinary team throughout a product life cycle.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with high-ranking military and civilian personnel on technical and programmatic matters.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.

  • Experience in submarine network architecture, interfaces, functions, and associated subsystems.
  • Expert knowledge in networking techniques and their applicability to Submarine systems.
  • Experience in performing technical leadership of a multi-disciplinary team.
