About the position

The Permitting Engineer (II, III, or Senior) at Mosaic will be responsible for planning and preparing various permit applications related to mining operations. This role involves coordinating with regulatory agencies, municipalities, and internal teams to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and facilitate the permitting process. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare permit applications including county mine unit plans and environmental resource permits.
  • Coordinate with reclamation and compliance staff on reclamation designs and mitigation standards.
  • Communicate with municipalities, public utilities, and regulatory agencies to facilitate processing of mine permits.
  • Attend meetings with regulatory agencies and public hearings as needed.
  • Conduct periodic inspections with regulatory staff.
  • Research and stay current with rules and policies of municipalities and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare draft local county applications and modifications for various permits.
  • Respond to requests for additional information from agencies regarding applications.
  • Prepare annual federal, state, and county reports as required.
  • Submit and schedule mine unit notifications as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in stakeholder involvement activities and provide presentations to stakeholder groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining, Civil, Geology, Environmental Engineering or related field required.
  • Engineer II - 2+ years of experience in mine or wetland permitting.
  • Engineer III - 4+ years of experience in mine or wetland permitting.
  • Senior Engineer - 8+ years of experience in mine or wetland permitting.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of GIS is required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • PE preferred.
  • Candidates with FDEP and/or federal permitting experience are preferred.
