About the position

The Process Safety Management (PSM) Specialist at Nutrien plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of plant operations. This position involves coordinating site-wide PSM activities, advising management on PSM issues, and participating in the development of PSM strategies. The specialist will work closely with various departments to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and corporate policies, while also providing technical guidance and support for safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordination of site wide PSM activities to ensure technical support to the Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other plant departments.
  • Advise site management on all PSM issues and recommended solutions.
  • Participate in the establishment of short and long term PSM program strategies and goals for continual improvement of site PSM performance.
  • Assist department employees in the review of all plant process additions, modifications, construction, and operations for compliance with Company PSM policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage change and incident reporting/corrective action tracking software program.
  • Ensure site PHA Facilitators consistently adhere to regulatory and corporate requirements by managing/providing the required training in HazOps, SIL, SRS, and SIS.
  • Attend PHA team meetings to provide coaching and technical guidance in PSM principles.
  • Ensure incident investigations are conducted per corporate and site requirements.
  • Manage PSM corrective actions developed from Incident Investigations, PHAs, and audits aimed at reducing or eliminating process and physical hazards.
  • Produce, advise, review and/or manage all PSM correspondence, record keeping, and reporting documentation for all site PSM process activities.
  • Manage company PSM program policy changes and revisions and communicate to and/or train employees and contractors as required.
  • Stay informed of new or pending PSM regulations and methods of enforcement and inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Identify, develop, and manage PSM program costs for the Health & Safety Department budget.
  • Work directly with regulatory agencies on all PSM matters including agency inspections.
  • Assist other Phosphate sites to apply PSM principles by providing technical expertise, site PSM policies and procedures, and performing PSM focused audits.
  • Provide technical assistance for personal safety initiatives.
  • Actively support and be involved with all safety programs.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering
  • 2 years of experience, preferred 5 years, in a Process Safety Management covered process or industry
  • TWIC required
  • Strong knowledge of the OSHA Standards for General Industry regulation 29 CFR 1910.119
  • Technical and intellectual horsepower for problem-solving
  • Action-oriented attitude, creative and able to deal with ambiguity
  • Resourcefulness, organization, and possess the ability to plan strategically
  • Good understanding of manufacturing operations
  • Experience with incident investigations
  • Ability to plan, measure, and interpret results from an examination of the environment and present specific conclusions through verbal and written communications to management with minimal supervision
  • Must pass a pre-employment exam and drug screening.
