About the position

The Engineer - Protection & Control position at AVANGRID is responsible for the design, configuration, maintenance, and renewal of automation and protection systems within the electric delivery infrastructure across New England and New York. This role involves ensuring compliance with various regulatory standards while managing engineering projects to ensure safe and cost-effective completion. The engineer will collaborate with multiple departments and external contractors to achieve project goals and maintain high safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design, estimating, and analysis of electric transmission and substation protection systems.
  • Review and approve detailed protection system designs and work of engineering contractors.
  • Analyze distribution fault event operations and develop fault analysis reports.
  • Manage compliance programs applicable to substation assets and act as a subject matter expert during audits.
  • Travel to worksites as needed.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in Engineering or a minimum of 1 year in Protection & Control and 1 year of engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology; MS in Engineering preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam preferred.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis and fundamentals of equipment protection.
  • Experience with power system protection applications such as ASPEN OneLiner and ASPEN Line Database.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of IEC-61850 standards.
  • Knowledge of FERC/NERC/NPCC and state regulations.
