About the position

The QA Software Engineer will be responsible for the validation of software and hardware products developed to ensure they meet the product requirements specified by both internal and external customers. This role involves the preparation of product requirements specifications and validation test plans that adequately describe the product, providing a basis for consistent and repeatable testing of the product under test. The engineer will assist software development engineers in populating databases specific to applications under development, ensuring that all necessary data is accurately captured and maintained. In this position, the engineer will participate in team meetings to understand the validation test engineering needs of the program and to determine necessary actions. A critical aspect of the role includes analyzing application functional requirements and developing functional test plans that align with these requirements. The engineer will perform the test plans and provide feedback to the engineering team regarding any product failures to meet functional or technical specifications, as well as report on product defects. Additionally, the QA Software Engineer will be responsible for developing field installation guides for on-board systems and providing in-field support for installations. The role may also include other miscellaneous duties as assigned, requiring flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the team and the projects at hand.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in team meetings to understand the validation test engineering needs of the program and to obtain/determine actions.
  • Analyzing application functional requirements.
  • Developing Functional Test Plans.
  • Performing test plans as required.
  • Providing feedback to Engineering regarding product failures to meet functional or technical specifications, or product defects.
  • Developing field installation guides for on-board systems.
  • Providing in-field support of installations.
  • Completing other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • Two years of experience in Automotive or Heavy Duty software development and/or testing.
  • Working knowledge of SAE J1708 / J1939.
  • Familiarity with on-board diagnostic (OBD) systems and scan tools.
  • Knowledge of electronic theory and basic circuit analysis.
  • Basic PC skills including operating systems (MS Windows 95, 98, NT), MS Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Fundamental understanding of automotive and/or heavy duty truck engine, transmission, and ABS operation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASE certification in drivability (optional).
  • Commercial Drivers License (CDL) (optional).
