About the position

The Research Engineer position in the Engine Lubricant Dynamometer Test Lab involves facilitating engine oil tests, developing project plans, and ensuring client goals are met. The role requires innovative problem-solving and effective communication with clients and laboratory staff, as well as leadership in standardized testing forums.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate engine oil tests in the engine dynamometer test laboratory.
• Interact with clients to ensure their goals are being met.
• Develop project plans and procedures and communicate them effectively to laboratory staff.
• Develop new capabilities in response to client needs in lubricant testing.
• Write test reports, proposals, and internal procedures.
• Obtain leadership roles within ASTM forums governing standardized test types.
• Perform lubricant testing in engine dynamometer facilities and maintain client relationships.
• Develop innovative solutions to project problems and expand laboratory capabilities.
• Use engineering practices to ensure test quality and compliance with procedures.
• Plan, coordinate, and control assigned projects, reporting technical and financial details to clients and management.
• Resolve engineering issues related to testing.
• Market SwRI services to current and prospective customers.
• Write and present technical papers as needed to further SwRI's mission.
• Field phone calls after hours as laboratories operate 24/7.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 0-5 years of relevant internships.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork ability.
• Willingness to work hands-on in a laboratory environment with noise, heat, oil, fuel, and humidity.
• A valid/clear driver's license is required.
