About the position

The Research Engineer position in the Propulsion & Energy Machinery Section focuses on engineering research and development in industrial heat and power, liquid propulsion, gas turbine combustion, and air-breathing propulsion. The role involves supporting the design, analysis, and testing of systems and components for various propulsion and energy processes, contributing to advancements in cleaner technologies for air and space flight.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, analysis, and testing of propulsion and energy systems and components.
  • Conduct literature reviews, design, analysis, and simulation development for multiple projects.
  • Utilize commercial engineering software for design and analysis, such as ANSYS Workbench or ANSYS APDL.
  • Provide mechanical and machine design support for applications in power generation, propulsion, and combustion.
  • Contribute to the technical development of experimental test programs and operate new test rigs.
  • Assess and implement modifications to testing rigs to meet project objectives.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for tests and simulations using a first-principles approach.
  • Perform mechanical design tasks under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Communicate ideas and results effectively to coworkers and clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0-5 years of mechanical design experience using FEA tools to predict component stresses.
  • 0-5 years of experience in design, commissioning, and testing of high pressure and/or extreme temperature systems.
  • 0-5 years of familiarity with industry standards such as ASME Pressure Vessel Code and ASME B31 Piping Codes.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
