About the position

The RF Engineer II position is a contract role focused on the design and implementation of 4G and 5G networks. The engineer will work on various tasks related to RF engineering, including site design, regulatory filings, and project support, while utilizing advanced tools and software to ensure optimal network performance.

Responsibilities

  • IBWave certification of a 2 or 3 to help with in-building design
  • Provide a high overview of how a DAS works and its components
  • Support engineers in project creation and task completion to support the network project build plan
  • Create site design RFDS and complete plumbing diagrams
  • Use propagation tools and RF-related equipment to compare site candidates and review propagation and coverage
  • Prepare and submit E-911 filings
  • Determine regulatory coverage boundaries for extensions and FAA/FCC filings
  • Prepare zoning justification packages and regulatory filings for sites
  • Work closely with the real estate team to streamline site acquisition and zoning submission processes
  • Conduct RFE analysis, generate required reports, and ensure compliance with RFE mitigation standards
  • Analyze sites post-activation to ensure project and database accuracy
  • Automate processes when opportunities arise and share information with teams
  • Audit and correct internal databases for accurate project implementation and reporting

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience in the telecommunications industry
  • 5+ years of experience in the telecommunications industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge in 4G and 5G network design and implementation
  • Experience with antennas, RF engineering, transmission, reception, and propagation
  • Good understanding of band performance capabilities and limitations
  • Knowledge of 3GPP Performance KPIs and their design impacts
  • Understanding of outdoor terrain and indoor structures' effects on signal propagation
  • Experience with topographical maps and digital terrain databases
  • Familiarity with antenna system design and installation
  • Experience in macro and small cell design considerations
  • Ability to analyze and manipulate large data sets

Nice-to-haves

  • IBWave certification
  • Experience with MapInfo
  • Familiarity with FCC ASR and ULS databases
  • Experience with Visio, Tableau, and GIS
  • Knowledge of EME tools like Ixus and RAVE
