About the position

The RF Engineer - III position is responsible for contributing to the RF design of the regional wireless macro and small cell network. This role requires a strong understanding of RF engineering principles, including 4G network design, antenna systems, and propagation analysis. The engineer will work collaboratively with various teams to ensure optimal network performance and compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create site design RFDS and complete plumbing diagrams.
  • Perform radio engineering evaluations for system planning and site acquisition.
  • Evaluate coverage problems and requirements for coverage and capacity cells.
  • Utilize propagation tools and other RF related equipment such as MapInfo, Google Earth, ATOLL, propagation and coverage review and selection, zoning and regulatory.
  • Determine regulatory coverage boundaries for extensions, FAA/FCC filings.
  • Review cell sites and design for upgrades/modifications.
  • Create search areas and review search area candidates within geographic area by taking into consideration performance issues, capacity, topography, and population.
  • Work with the performance team to improve Key Performance Indicators within the area of interest.
  • Prepare necessary zoning justification packages and regulatory filings for sites.
  • Work closely with the real estate team to increase efficiency, minimize cost, and streamline processes related to site acquisition, leasing, and zoning submissions.
  • Conduct RFE analysis, generate required reports and documents, and ensure 100% compliance to RFE mitigation standards within the allotted time frame.
  • Determine the required antennas for planned frequencies and their optimal positions.
  • Determine the required cable, antennas, and equipment to implement macro and small cell wireless network clusters.
  • Automate processes when opportunities arise and share information with the teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in RF engineering.
  • Advanced experience with Atoll and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of 4G network design and implementation.
  • Understanding of LTE KPIs and their impacts on design.
  • Ability to calculate antenna gain and free space path loss.
  • Familiarity with outdoor terrain and indoor structures affecting signal propagation.
  • Experience with antenna system design and installation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Fuze, Roofmaster, SQL, Visio, Ericsson performance tools, Visual Basic (macro creation).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and project planning skills.
