About the position

The Senior Sales Engineer at Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) plays a crucial role in providing technical sales support to the Sales team and mid to large Enterprise and Wholesale customers. This position requires a deep understanding of technology and the ability to effectively communicate product positioning to both business and technical users. The Senior Sales Engineer is tasked with identifying technical issues and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the sales cycle. This involves collaborating closely with Project Management to deliver network solutions that are timely and within budget. In addition to technical support, the Senior Sales Engineer will actively participate in the top-level configuration of network systems. This role also includes assisting the Marketing and Sales departments in defining product specifications and preparing technical and price proposals. Establishing and maintaining strong business relationships is essential, as is the ability to identify opportunities and develop complex strategic solutions tailored to prospects and customers. The Senior Sales Engineer will create and present technical applications, conduct executive briefings, and provide training to the Sales team on emerging technologies, solutions, and industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical sales support to the Sales team and mid to large Enterprise and Wholesale customers.
  • Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users.
  • Identify technical issues to assure customer satisfaction throughout the sales cycle.
  • Collaborate with Project Management to deliver network solutions in a timely manner and within budget.
  • Participate in the top-level configuration of network systems.
  • Assist Marketing and Sales departments with defining product specifications and preparation of technical and price proposals.
  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with customers.
  • Identify opportunities and develop complex strategic solutions to prospects and customers.

Requirements

  • Four year degree in a relevant engineering or technology field preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience in network architecture, including design, developing and implementing enterprise level networks.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Effective customer communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), Optical Networking, LAN/MAN/WAN technologies.
  • Familiarity with Voice Network technologies and protocols (VoIP, SIP, MGCP).
  • Knowledge of access technologies (FTTH, DSL, DOCSIS, MetroEthernet).
  • Understanding of transport technologies (Ethernet, DWDM, SONET, ROADM).
