About the position

The Engineer/Scientist position in Mining at GHD in Boise, Idaho, focuses on delivering innovative solutions to complex mining challenges. The role involves collaborating with a team of engineers, scientists, and specialists to create sustainable mining practices that benefit communities and the environment. The position emphasizes technical delivery, project management, and mentoring junior team members, contributing to GHD's growth strategy in the US West Mining Market.

Responsibilities

  • Working within a team of mining professionals to successfully deliver projects to clients
  • Developing clear and defensible site conceptual models for complex sites
  • Preparing work plans and technical reports/presentations for meetings with clients and regulators
  • Preparation of permit applications and regulatory compliance reports
  • Engaging in regular communications relating to project management and technical issues
  • Actively communicating with the technical team and Project Managers
  • Performing task management duties including leading scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and health & safety
  • Assisting with proposals including understanding client/project needs and aligned scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Working within multi-disciplinary project teams, providing advice to other GHD teams
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members in a learning and collaborative environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering (civil, environmental, geological, or mining), geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, geochemistry, water resources, or other discipline relevant to the mining industry
  • MSHA New Miner (refresher current) Certification
  • Minimum 5+ years experience, 8+ years experience preferred
  • Technical delivery of services within your area of expertise
  • Planning and implementation of field work
  • Ability to develop site conceptual models based on scientific/engineering investigations
  • Prepare graphics and reports that present complex technical matter in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to develop and prepare reports for client and regulatory agency acceptance
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong commitment to client service
  • Mining experience related to environmental or geotechnical site investigations, mining-influenced water, mine site hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, mine planning and closure, tailings management/design, mining engineering, mining exploration, permitting and regulatory compliance experience for the mining industry

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with water quality permitting (aquifer protection, direct discharge, stormwater)
