About the position
The Engineer SCM at Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits is responsible for managing material handling projects from conception to implementation. This role involves designing appropriate material handling solutions, collaborating with warehouse management personnel and vendors, and improving existing solutions. The Engineer will also handle traditional project management functions such as timelines, budgets, and coordination with various stakeholders within the company.
Responsibilities
- Establish design criteria and overall system performance criteria for the Material Handling System Project by analyzing the data and input from the management
- Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) based on the established criteria
- Develop ROI models for the investments and present the data to Management
- Research new technologies in the distribution field and recommend solutions that would improve existing processes
- Collaborate with material handling equipment (MHE) vendors for solution development and design
- Assist with the overall layout and system design process
- Manage budget, timeline, and scope
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors about project status, critical items, and priorities
- Act as support during installation and start-up
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering (or equivalent)
- 2 plus years of experience in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or similar industry
- Competency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and Database software
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on project needs and deadlines
- Willingness to travel to project sites upon request (Up to 30%)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Knowledge of Warehouse Software application (SAP WM and/or Manhattan)
- Experience with industrial automation, conveyor and sortation systems, and material handling equipment or similar systems
