About the position

The Engineer SCM at Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits is responsible for managing material handling projects from conception to implementation. This role involves designing appropriate material handling solutions, collaborating with warehouse management and vendors, and improving existing processes. The position requires traditional project management functions such as managing timelines, budgets, and coordination with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Establish design criteria and overall system performance criteria for the Material Handling System Project by analyzing data and input from management.
  • Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) based on established criteria.
  • Develop ROI models for investments and present data to management.
  • Research new technologies in the distribution field and recommend solutions to improve existing processes.
  • Collaborate with material handling equipment (MHE) vendors for solution development and design.
  • Assist with the overall layout and system design process.
  • Manage budget, timeline, and scope of projects.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors about project status, critical items, and priorities.
  • Act as support during installation and start-up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 2 plus years of experience in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or similar industry.
  • Competency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and Database software.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on project needs and deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites upon request (Up to 30%).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Software application (SAP WM and/or Manhattan).
  • Experience with industrial automation, conveyor and sortation systems, and material handling equipment or similar systems.
