About the position

The Senior Principal Engineer for Command & Data Handling Systems at BAE Systems is responsible for leading the Command and Data Handling (CDH) subsystem team in the development and verification of subsystem requirements for spacecraft. This role involves technical leadership, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that the subsystem meets program requirements in terms of technical specifications, cost, and schedule.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Command and Data Handling subsystem lead on Civil Space and National Defense bus programs.
• Work daily with the larger Command & Data Handling (CDH) team on technical definition, implementation, and verification.
• Support the definition and maintenance of the subsystem architecture and interfaces.
• Generate verification and validation plans, and work with Integration and Test team to ensure the subsystem meets requirements.
• Perform technical writing including procedural definitions, specifications, interfaces, and analysis support documents.
• Prepare and give presentations to peers, customers, and management.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department and across the company.
• Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

• BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in electronics or avionics subsystem design or test, or a related field.
• Understanding of requirements definition, decomposition, and flow-down, circuit design, interface definition, hardware specifications, interface control, analyses, and verification.
• Experience developing and delivering space qualified hardware.
• Intellectual curiosity combined with a strong desire to learn.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Effective in multidisciplinary teamwork environment.
