About the position

The Engineer - SQL (Data Analysis/Visualization) position at American Express involves contributing to the design, development, testing, and deployment of IT Asset Management (ITAM) solutions. The role focuses on ensuring high-quality data integration and analysis to support ITAM processes, collaborating with technology and business partners to resolve issues and enhance data quality. Responsibilities

  • Assist in documenting data requirements and data stories, including analyzing data requirements and corresponding data sources.
  • Liaise between ITAM product and control development, control operations, and technology support regarding IT asset data requirements and issues.
  • Support data testing activities.
  • Conduct data mining and analysis to provide actionable insights for issue identification and resolution.
  • Investigate and drive incident and problem resolution in collaboration with partner teams.
  • Monitor and measure accuracy of inbound data feeds and data conditioning processes, working with partner teams to resolve quality gaps.
  • Investigate, document, and monitor upstream and downstream systems and processes for effective ITAM operations.
  • Provide data analysis and documentation to support process and audit activities.
  • Communicate status of issues and preventative solutions to the team and leadership.

Requirements

  • Up to 4 years of software development experience in a professional environment or comparable experience.
  • Familiarity with Agile or other rapid application development methods.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases, data visualization, dashboard or report design, Power BI.
  • General knowledge of distributed systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Understanding of XML/JSON and schema development/reuse, database concepts, and designs.
  • Ability to conduct systematic analyses to identify root causes of problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage workload and meet targets.
  • Experience in data and information analysis to make sound conclusions and decisions.
  • Clear communication skills, structured and easy to understand.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with IT Asset Management and multi-source CMDB.
  • Experience with the ServiceNow platform.
  • Professional certifications in IT Asset Management (e.g., CSAM, CITAM, CHAMP, CAMSE or equivalent).
