About the position

The Stability and Control Engineer at Honda Aircraft Company is responsible for planning and conducting stability and control analyses using theoretical developments, wind tunnel, and flight data. This role involves predicting flight results, overseeing flight and ground tests, and providing real-time flight test support. The engineer will work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to resolve issues and develop analysis tools to enhance efficiency and capability in flight sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Predict flight results and compare predictions to flight data.
  • Oversee flight and ground tests in collaboration with Flight Test Engineering to gather necessary data.
  • Provide real-time flight test support using telemetry.
  • Reduce flight data for engineering analyses.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to identify and resolve issues.
  • Develop and extend standard stability and control and flight mechanics analysis tools and processes.
  • Analyze data against 14CFR Part 23 standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • 0 years of experience required.
  • Knowledge in developing, using, and validating specialized flight mechanics prediction tools.
  • Strong programming skills in tools such as Matlab/Simulink.
  • Capability with aerodynamic prediction tools such as vortex-lattice and panel codes.
  • Strong theoretical background in flight dynamics and working knowledge of mass properties, applied aerodynamics, and aircraft loads.
  • Thorough understanding of 14CFR Part 23 requirements for Flight Sciences disciplines.
  • Familiarity with aircraft icing considerations.
  • Theoretical foundation and familiarity working in both time and frequency domains.
  • Thorough understanding of rigid body dynamics, flight mechanics, and automatic flight control system design and performance.
