About the position

The Staff Engineer in Engineering & Architecture at GCI Communication Corp is an advanced-level position requiring extensive expertise in multiple engineering disciplines. This role involves making independent technical decisions on complex engineering problems, serving as a technical consultant to management, and leading major projects. The engineer will evaluate products, develop test plans, and oversee projects while maintaining design standards and facilitating integration across various company functions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mission, goals, operations, and results of the team and areas of responsibility.
  • Provide strong leadership to direct and indirect reports, fostering enthusiasm and shared commitment.
  • Establish the vision and tone for the department in alignment with company culture and mission.
  • Set clear, measurable, and achievable goals and performance expectations for the team.
  • Hire and mentor individuals to meet departmental goals and provide necessary training and tools for success.
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback to individuals and teams, addressing performance issues effectively.
  • Forecast demand on the GCI network and provide bi-annual forecasts for long-range planning.
  • Coordinate with other departments to optimize costs and manage leased capacity effectively.
  • Lead technical discussions with vendors and guide teams in troubleshooting problems.
  • Develop and document technical standards and processes for network systems.
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) related to network performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of professional engineering experience.
  • Ability to coordinate complex technical issues and perform as Lead Project Engineer for major initiatives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering.
  • Broad experience within the Telecommunications industry.
  • Other telecom industry or job-specific certifications.
