About the position

The Staff Engineer, Engineering & Architecture position is an advanced role requiring significant expertise in multiple engineering disciplines. This position serves as a technical expert and consultant, responsible for making independent technical decisions on complex engineering problems. The role involves leading major projects, developing test plans, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while fostering collaboration across departments. The engineer will also mentor junior engineers and oversee the integration of work processes within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Fully own the mission, goals, operations, and results of the team and areas of responsibility.
  • Provide strong leadership to span of control (direct and indirect reports).
  • Establish the vision and tone for the department, consistent with company culture and mission.
  • Establish clear, measurable, and achievable goals and performance expectations.
  • Hire individuals who can accomplish goals and meet expectations, providing necessary training and mentoring.
  • Provide clear and accurate feedback to individuals and teams on a timely basis.
  • Manage processes including performance reviews, compensation adjustments, and disciplinary actions.
  • Forecast demand on the GCI network and provide bi-annual forecasts for long-range planning.
  • Coordinate with other departments to optimize costs and consolidate leased capacity.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing technical leadership and oversight.
  • Develop and document technical standards and processes for network systems.
  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) related to network performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of professional engineering experience.
  • Ability to coordinate complex technical issues and perform as Lead Project Engineer.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering.
  • Broad experience within the Telecommunications industry.
  • Other telecom industry or job specific certifications.
