About the position

The Systems Engineer / Principal Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman will focus on Requirements Management, Reliability Analysis, and Systems Safety Analysis, primarily for rocket motor propulsion systems. This role is integral to the company's digital transformation efforts, requiring collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to continuous learning. The successful candidate will engage with a diverse team to convert customer requirements into effective systems solutions while ensuring compliance with technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, reliability and system safety analysis of rocket motor propulsion systems.
  • Analyze at the sub-system product level including concept, design, fabrication, test, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Convert customer or product requirements into systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Present to customers on product capabilities, performance analyses, design information, and requirements verification methods.
  • Generate, review, and manage multiple requirements sets covering performance and non-performance aspects.
  • Ensure awareness and responsiveness to contract milestones and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with subsystem engineers and subject matter experts to meet system requirements.
  • Work with integration and test engineers to verify all requirements through inspection, analysis, demonstration, or test.
  • Provide direction to ensure production tests and troubleshooting tests are executed correctly.
  • Develop simulation models for propulsion systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) related discipline with 2 years of relevant experience; Master's degree in STEM related discipline with 0 years of relevant experience for level 2.
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM related discipline with 5 years of relevant experience; Master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience; or a PhD for level 3.
  • Strong requirements development and management skills using DOORS (or equivalent software).
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate to team members, customers, and suppliers.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with propulsion systems.
  • Familiarity with programs or projects in a production phase.
  • Experience managing system requirements and requirements verification.
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience with tools like CAMEO.
  • Familiarity with reliability analysis.
  • Familiarity with systems safety analysis.
